11-03-15 "Tenderless" engine steaming in the yard

I cannot make it out but one the K36s came out of the engine house without its tender! It made it to the switch and then they pushed it the rest of the way to the ash pit. I believe it is the 489. They are now hooking up a tender to it at the ash pit. _Be sure to see Larry's video below - not something I have ever seen before - certainly not something we see everyday on the C & T.

I was very surprised, too. I hope Larry can provide some video of it tonight - it came out in the shadows (thought it might be the 15 at first) I would really like a chance to see how it got to the switch, again.

Ed I would think it was too early for Christmas trains, but who knows. There is still the supposed movie shoot, but if bridge is closed how will anything from Chama get up to Cumbres?

I have no inside source, but, just sayin', at least 489 looks like she could be ready for the call. As far as the movie shoot goes, if need be, I suppose they could bring a train up from Antonito. It would be interesting to see what they're doing at the bridge.

I have the video John, will post after I get home this evening. All moves were done by the bucket loader. Should be posted maybe by 8:30 or so my time (Eastern).

Now uploading the video - will have link and video here shortly. I do have to retract a bit of my statement above however, ALL moves were not done by the bucket loaders. That was in part an assumption, based on past experience watching, and seeing the loaders moving when I quickly reviewed things before heading to work. In actuality - and quite surprisingly - 489 came out of the shop under her own steam power. I believe the intent was to hook up to the tender under power as well, but she didn't hold enough to do that. Just another day of surprises while watching the happenings in the rail yard!

11-03-15 The day starts with the bucket loader moving 489's tender from the left to the right side shop track. Tenderless 489 then steams out of the shop, and couldn't quite make it to the tender for hookup, so the bucket loaders were once again pressed to service to complete the task. Video runs about 12 minutes.

NOTE: It seems Smugmug has changed the way I can link to videos, I can't find a way to have a pre-view pic as I have. For now here is a direct link to it, until I figure it out. If anyone has issues viewing let me know, and I'll get it on YouTube or something until I can find out what they did to change things.

Saw the same today, 11/9 ... was amused, but not surprised. As long as the boiler has sufficient water, not much of a big deal for a short move.
