It’s been a short month since the conclusion of Work Session D – and now the Friends are back, some 49 volunteers hard at work to sustain their favorite railroad. The Monday safety briefing was delivered by Chairman (and Work Session leader) Craig McMullen, as well as the C&TSRR’s CEO and President, John Bush.

Work Session E activities are largely in Chama, with two teams assigned to tasks at Cumbres. Craig McMullen is overseeing a diverse group of work activities, including Clyde Putman’s team, focused on maintenance of wheels, brakes and safety appliances; Don Bayer’s team, working hard on the RPO X54 restoration; John Sutkus’ group, restoring the historic coal tipple (specifically, the lightning system); Russ Hanscom, leading the effort on Derrick OP’s restoration; Bill Pratt’s group, rebuilding Gondola Car #9558; Rob Lenicheck and his team, repairing Boxcar #3669; Len Jones, repairing the Chama stock pen fence; and John Cole, leading the charge on snow shed header repairs at Cumbres. Dave Ferro is also at Cumbres, developing the plan for continued repair of the Car Inspector’s house.

The all-important support activities include Mary Jane Smith’s food preparation team; Holly Ross, registrar; Spero Bettalico and Carol Mackey, tool car operations; Marshall Smith’s nail and bolt car operations; Ted Smith, documentation and reporting; and Davis (Billy) Anders and Carole Frey, chroniclers. Jim Sublett is working on equipment preparation and Naomi Sublett is back in Chama, tending to the landscaping with her team.
