11/10/2017 Friday - 3 Caboose C&TSR Ride

It is another night. The cameras peer through the dark almost blinded by the lights of the engine house. What can we do these hours before dawn? Why, we turn to the TV Toy Man to remind us of the wonderful adventures of riding the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad during this past October.
.
The railroad was running an "engineer school" train, where several people pay to take a 3 day class on running a steam locomotive, and the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec invited a few people to ride the cabooses.
.
From the web:
.
Hidden away in a little-known corner of the southern Rocky Mountains on the border of New Mexico and Colorado is a precious historic artifact of the American West that time forgot. Built in 1880 and little changed since, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the finest and most spectacular example of steam era mountain railroading in North America. Its equipment, structures and vast landscape exist today as if frozen in the first half of the twentieth century.

The time has long passed when the railroad last hauled precious metals over Cumbres Pass. But its steam locomotives still labor up steep grades carrying visitors over high trestles, through tunnels, and along narrow shelves above yawning gorges. In an era of strip malls, cruise ships and jumbo jets, the Cumbres & Toltec provides an experience for those seeking something different. It provides adventures that unfold in the easy cadence of Mountain Time.

The Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization which shares with the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Commission the stewardship of this unique railroad property of important historic significance and remarkable scenic beauty. Our mission is to preserve and interpret the railroad and to support its operation for the people of Colorado and New Mexico who own it, and the tens of thousands of visitors who come to be transported back in time through the beauty of the San Juan Mountains.

This informative and fun video had 5,242 viewers to date. What a pleasant way to share the C&TSR Railroad with past and future riders.

What a wonderful coincidence. The same time that Toy Man was filming the 3 Caboose Ride from aboard the Train, "Wacky" Roger was busy capturing views of the train from above and alongside the track. Roger, thanks again for so freely sharing your lprolific videographic talent with us.

Where were you May 19, 2016? Is there the slightest chance you were here?

Possibly you went up to Corkins' Cabins, fished the cloudy runoff in the Brazos River for rainbow trout, and then returned here:

If you did not yet get your C&TSR fix, then we probably found you here on Memorial Day 2016.

By now you know that we want you to stay here at Chama, New Mexico.

Another quiet day at the Chama yard, until a staff member steps out and visits the kitchen south of the bathroom. The reminder of the video is spent checking out the other cameras, including cameras at Cumbres, Antonito, and the San Antono Mountain..
