Looks like a nine-car #216 train this morning, with #463 as the road engine and #487 as the helper. Good to see that level of ridership!

Edwin, I am not good at locomotive recognition, but found these two locomotives making steam early this morning. You or Larry might be able to confirm if these are #463 and #487.

You got it right...463 on the left, 487 on the right. 463 is easier to identify by its bright aluminum smokebox front, taller stack, and the fact that it's a bit smaller.. It's hard to tell the K-36's apart if you can't clearly see the front ends. Both 487 and 489 have plows. and on 489. the ends of the pilot beam protrude through the sides of the plow. 488 and 484 both have "boiler-tube' pilots, and it's not easy to tell them apart with just a front view. And, if all else fails, wait until you can get a side view and read the numerals on the cab

Train 216 leaves Chama Depot on time with locomotives #463 and #487 pulling its load toward Cumbres.

Mr. Ed. I followed your advice and read the numerals to distinguish the locomotives. I'll try and do a better job next time and examine the smokestacks. Thanks for your help. Rick

Frank you are welcome. Performing this task gives me even more respect for the fine job accomplished by Sharon - yep, Wacky reported in March that Chama had some record snowfall.

Tom, why of course it is Mr. Wacky, just as for some he is Mr. Rogers. And then some say Chama is Mr. Wacky Roger's neighborhood. Wow, he is a wonderful photographer, videographer, graphic historian of the San Juan Mountains, and a kind and generous host of his own hotel. A really great guy who calls himself Wacky.
