06-24-16 Friday Yard Activities

484 first up this morning, at ash pit but a bit too far forward, may only be some switching moves for the locos here.

An early morning photographer gets some nice close-ups of 484 as 489 moves from the East lead to inside the West stall of the shop.

Very noticeable difference this morning with our newly cleaned camera lenses!

By the dawn's early light, I see that the water service car and baggage car have been moved away from the restrooms. Don't know when or where they went, but it should be much easier for passengers to load/unload.

Ed, they are now further south on the same lead. It is supposed this is to get the smell, fumes and dust away from the depot and passengers while the Friends strip and repaint it. It will, for now, be easier to capture the conductor giving the "hi ball".
Where did 484 go? Can't see him on any of the cams.

It went back down to the west lead of the engine house. 489 was out earlier, switched from the east lead to the west and backed the house.

Looks like another shoot out is planned for Cumbres today. The passengers should get a real show.

I do believe that the white looking car we can see past the depot is the stripped RPO.

The parking lot at the pass has this red bus which has been there for a least an hour and now a tank truck. If we are in luck 215 should show in 10 -15 minutes.

Here's 216 Departure this morning -

215 Arrival with 487 leading

Also as to the white looking car at the depot it is the RPO - I can pretty clearly see on video that it's been wrapped in that white plastic they use for the train cars, likely to protect whatever they've done over the weekend before work can continue next week.

Truck is a rock hauler bringing in ballast. As of Friday morning the driver said they had delivered about half of what was ordered. Parking space is becoming a premium.

Pete, with them staging ballast at Cumbres, will they use 19 to haul ballast cars up there, use a loader to fill them and then take to the work sites.

Presumably that is what they will do, but I'very heard nothing about the details of the disposition. I hope they start doing something soon since the piles make it difficult to get to the section house.

So is the white we are seeing from the tipple cams primer, or did they wrap with white plastic? From long distance it sure looked like they were wrapping it - but hard to tell for sure. Thanks for all your info, very much appreciated!!

It is white primer with plastic on roof to minimize overspray.
