Here's the 216 video from today - note in the beginning the picking up of the fire patrol speeder (as Sharon noted above) and moved in front of #15 - though kept on the forklift. Later in the day, they turn and re-rail it.

Train 215 Returns - once again they switch locomotives in Osier -- 463 remains the daily workhorse out of Antonito.

As 487 was coming to the ash pit, a speeder was brought in on a trailer and put on the rails. Now sitting beside the roundhouse attached to the tank for the fire patrol, likely we'll see this one go out tomorrow, but will have to turn down at the wye first.

Sharon had noted earlier the worker picking up coal piece by piece - well the whole story seems to be he was down on the West side of the water tank working for a while, then moved to the East side and was shoveling? something into the bucket. Then came back with a bucket full of ballast?, then took 3 scoops of coal, as much as possible, by machine before cleaning the rest up by hand. Just the part near the coal dock is in video.

Here's today's 216 departure -- thought I'd give it a bit of the old look!

And here's 215

484 took one coach off so looks like tomorrow will be a 7 car train again. No other video of the day due to cam issues.

216 Departs with 484 once again in the lead. Seven car train today.

215 Returns with 484 and 7 car train.

Other than 489's trip up to Cumbres and back, it was a fairly quiet day today.

Train 216 Departure (only South cam today) -

487 towed 484 to the ash pit then down to the water tank and back. Always fun to listen to the locomotive working with these, though today 487 seemed to have a real easy time of it.

463 returned to Chama today leading 215 in. It's been a couple weeks since she's been here, working daily out of Antonito, now hopefully she gets a well deserved day or two off.

Quick look through of some evening footage I saw several deer wandering through the yard, in different spots, but here a couple bucks showed up near the sandbox, 2nd one especially had a nice head of antlers growing.

Train 215 arrives this afternoon, sunny but very breezy afternoon in Chama

Here's 216, I'm going to also work up something from the morning activity as there was some nice smoke and sounds to see.

489 is the road locomotive of the day, 487 moves to put 463 from the East side to West side shop, then goes for water and a cleaning before heading back to outside the shop. Some nice steam/smoke and sounds for a summer morning.

Power outage prevented further recording this day.

Train 216 Departure, 487 is making a lot of noise close to the tipple, so hard to hear as the train leaves.

Seems there was a bit of a swirl in the winds here, looks like it picked up a tarp that was perhaps covering some of the Friends materials near the small spreader. Didn't last long, but sure seems like swirling air - start of a dust devil perhaps, if in more open area.

Around 9am 487 moved 463 to the ash pit. They sat there for almost 3 hours as the move back to the shop was just before noon. Note the worker that picks up the tarp, on the way back to shop, and replaces it over the supplies, much appreciated I'm sure by the Friends.

Train 215 Arrival right on time, lots of folks enjoying the day in the open gondola.

Here's videos of the day.

Train 216 Double-header with 463 as road locomotive and 489 as the helper. 463s whistle sounds like it caught a cold again!

Moved some more of the long lumber around the power pole again, looked like a bit unbalanced load, but all was well. Also 489 and the speeder return after helping 463 up the hill

Difficult to see much, but looks like they were shoring up the hill beside the ash pit with ties. Also 489 moving around getting ready for the dinner train.

Due to sheer stupidity by the operator of this computer we don't have a 215 video today.

The dinner train departs, a nice evening for a sunset ride for sure!

A lone mule deer visits by the sandbox, several others in the yard this afternoon, but this one came close. Afterwards she headed up toward the depot, then back down and over by the bunk house.

The dinner train returns. Note as 489 gets to about the tipple, someone is setting off a bunch of firecrackers on the other side of the street, look directly in line with that electric pole. The North cam view you hear them clearly as they continue to go off. I thought the 4th was a couple weeks ago? I guess they allow them anytime in that area.

Here's 216's departure. Interesting little "race" with the speeder, speeder went back so operator could retrieve something from one of the other machines, then it seems like a race on the way out.

School train departs on the first trip to Cumbres

Train 216 Departure

School train return and 2nd departure. Note the consist change on departure 2 - they dropped a gondola and added a 2nd flat, did the switching after lunch. On the way out they stopped for water as normal, but also looked like working on something under the caboose, or the rear coupler - will add full video of that work later.

Train 215 return and soon after the 2nd return of the school train.

The engineer/fireman school train returns from Antonito.

After turning at the wye 484 switches the train into the South yard.

Train 215 Returns with a 9 car consist and 487 in the lead. 484 finishes up at the ash pit and heads to the shop as 215 passes.

Here's 216 Departure Video

The only part of switching I really got to see -- looks like the tank car was put at the front of the string of cars by the oil rack. The two MOW color cars on the inside track, then the flat and the spreader OU were put into the swamp. Looks like there is a gondola in the spot where OU was kept since the last work session.

Train 216 departs just about on time with 487 leading a 7 car train up the hill.

Later in the day, 489 pulls 484 while getting cleaned at the ash pit, then both go down for water, before 484 is shoved back in front of the shop.

215 returns, with 487 turning around again at Osier. Beginning of the video shows our own Sharon Evans waving to the cam as she waits for 215 to come in. A few pics of her chase for today can be found here - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3753

Videos of the day ---

216 Departs Chama -- a photographer near the sandbox seems very close to the tracks, only moving at the last second -- I wonder if he was part of the PBS crew Sharon mentioned, and the crew knew he'd get out of the way. Then again it may look closer than it is on the cams.

#463 is back in Chama, bringing in train 215. After arrival the usual trip to the wye to turn, then locomotive shuffle with 487 taking over for 463. Sorry the end gets cut a bit short, the cam-fan got me.

Dinner train departs, lots of smoke - nearly covers the view of the train. As the parlor car passes the North cam, we can see Sharon waving from the platform.

Dinner train returns. Not on video, as it was really getting too dark to see much, after turning they continued past the depot and backed into the South yard adding on a caboose for Sunday's run.

Train 216 double-header with 489 as road locomotive and 487 as helper.

Thought I'd have a little fun and do an old style film version today. Imagine if we had webcams back in the day.... what fun sights we'd see!!!

Train 215 Arrives with 484 in the lead. Behind the locomotive is one of the UTLX tank cars, back to Chama for more work during the upcoming work session.

After turning the train at the wye, 484 brings the tank car to the swamp.

216 Departs with 484 in the lead, and lots of the Friends work crew waving to the passengers as they go by.

215 returns, 487 brings the train to the depot then after turning moves the RPO back - assumed for painting - and with the RPO gone a nice clear view of the train returning from the wye.

215 arrives with 484 at the point. Nice view from the depot cam with no RPO there for now.

Platforms for the oil racks are moved just after 216 headed out.

Here's today's video -

07/28/16

More platforms were brought down to the oil rack today by the big forklift. Navigating slowly over the tracks.

After 489 coaled, and was about to move someone came up and obviously made a request of the crew. After waiting for the main to clear from the forklift machine, 489 went down and moved one of the tank cars back over to beside the racks - must be for fitting something down there.

216 Departs with a 8 car train today.

215 returns with the 9 car consist that went out yesterday, after turning at the wye, they moved the painted RPO back to it's depot location.

Here's today's videos --

Train 216 Departure with lots of Friends waving at the passengers as they go buy

A bit unusual move here - 489 comes out to the ash pit under it's own power, 463 pulls up behind couples to 489 and then pulls 489 back so both are on the East side shop lead. No idea the reason, but unusual to see them do this move this way.

Quite a rain shower in the yard this afternoon, I actually had my own t-storms here that knocked out a bit of power - oh well, it's that time of year!!

After 215 turns at the wye, 484 takes 2 of the coaches and puts in the South yard, while 487 takes over the remainder of the train for the evening's run.

216 Departs with 487 as helper and 463 as road locomotive. A great morning for a double-header.

487 returns after helper duty and heads to the wye.

215 returns in a bit of a rain shower. After turning the train at the wye, 489 goes into the South yard and gets a caboose, bringing it to the swamp - likely for work session this week.

Train 216 departs today again as a double-header. Could be the Cinder Bear crowd was again large enough to call for the extra coaches. Tomorrow and Sunday will be the last Cinder Bear trains of the season, as we get to back to school time, so less and less kids will be seen on the trains during the week.

On the way out, they stopped just short of the water tank. Looks like the fireman from 484 got out and was looking at something on the right front side of the loco. All seemed well a few minutes later as they once again headed out of the yard.

Train 215 returns, just beating some of the late day rain showers that came in after arrival.

Train 216 departure - today only from the Depot cam as with the Friends working at the tipple, it was required they take the power down for a short time, so we didn't have the tipple cams.

In a fairly familier move for this season 489 moved 484 from the West shop to the East side lead. The damp makes for some nice smoke.

Train 215 arrives with a good crowd still in the open gondola enjoying the views.

As 487 was working in the South yard, work at the tipple continues. Sounds like they are dumping buckets of gravel? Are they testing the whole system? Curious for the whole story here. In the video, about 1 minute in we hear the dumping, see something go down in front of the camera - looks like small gravel maybe. Shortly after a lot of water starts dripping in front of the camera. So anyone with the full story of the work up there please educate us all!!!

Some switching in the South yard occurred after 215 was turned. One passenger car was taken off of 215, then several switching moves with the final result being what looks like a reefer car and maybe one other put in the track next to the main - perhaps will get a better view once 216 leaves Friday, of the exact cars.

Train 216 Departure - South cam locked up on me, so only North cam and no sound with this one.

Train 215 Arrival with 489 leading - right on time, as 487 waits her turn at the dinner train.

489 pulls one car off of the 215 train set, as 487 backs up to the cars in readiness for the dinner train.

Smoke about covers the train as 487 starts out of the yard. 489 having had it's servicing at the ash pit and water, backs to the shop.

Dinner train returns as night takes over the yard.

SNOW?? In August??? --- Well maybe not snow, but a fairly short storm sure had about everything in it, rain, sleet, hail, snow - quite the little storm. Here's about 3 minutes of the weather, at the end the cams freeze for a few seconds and when they come back a thunder clap. End of video just shows North and South cams after it clears out.

In other videos of the day --

Wondering what the machine sound was as 216 was getting ready to leave? The all purpose loader/forklift/backhoe was at work again cleaning the coal pit right next to the tipple.

Train 216 Departure with 489 leading and an 8 car train today.

Train 216 Departed today with a double-header. Open gondola right behind the locomotive, wondering if this has anything to do with the movie shoot we've been talking about.

Helper locomotive 484 returned just after 1pm, which is pretty standard for the helpers.

Train 215 returns, caboose tucked in behind the locomotive - caboose was later switched into the South yard.

Train 215 returns with 7 cars as well.

After 215 turned yesterday, they came back up and pulled on the back of the 215 set a caboose, 2 coaches, gondola, coach, gondola out of the South yard. All but the caboose were left on the main, the 215 set with caboose on the rear was put in the track next to the main. Perhaps we'll have two trains tomorrow?

In what is a fairly rare occurrence, we had all 4 operational locomotives at work pulling different trains. As usual the railroad put it all together and things seemed to go off without a hitch. Job well done to those that keep these locomotives and equipment running every day!!!

First off what we found out to be a chartered train for a game show -- looks like it would have been a fun ride. Would love to know what game show, and if it's broadcast where we could see it. 463 leads this train with two coaches, then a gondola, another coach and 2nd gondola - looks like most of the show was in the rear car.

Next up is 489 taking out our daily train 216

After 216 departed there was a fairly good size parade that went through town, lasted around 40 minutes or so. Here just a couple minutes to show it, if anyone wants more just ask, but not a ton to really see or hear from the cams.

484 brings in the afternoon train 215. 463 and 489 are now in Antonito for the night. Will be interesting to see if one comes back to Chama light on Sunday, or if both stay on the other side for a while. With the school train this week, likely they would keep 463 in Antonito, and work out getting the other K36 back to Chama.

Finally we see 487 in action with the dinner train.

Grand day on the Cumbres and Toltec -- those chasing trains today had a great day to do so.

Several videos today -- but I did miss 216 departure, sat here and watched it go - but think I just forgot to record.

We'll start with the first school train departure, pulled by 484

489 did some switching before getting 216 ready, moving the wheel and tie car, refer and a box car. Getting the track empty for the Geese.

After the yard was cleared, Goose #7 arrives in Chama. I think all revenue runs are sometime next week, so not sure if they'll just sit here or actually go out beyond the check run.

The school train arrives back in Chama after the first run to Cumbres.

In what seems like a rare move, they did some switching to change up the consist for the afternoon run. Have to wonder if they had an issue with a car, or just wanted a different consist.

The 2nd departure of our school train for the day, with the required stop at the water tank for a drink.

With the yard quiet in the afternoon a lone deer visits in sight of the North cam

489 pulls in with train 215

Shortly after the school train arrives, and heads down the back way to the wye to turn.

Finally after the locomotives are done for the day and cleaning up, Goose 7 heads out for their qualification run.

After the morning departures it was a very quiet day in Chama, no locomotives around to service. I was kind of hoping they'd fire up #15 just to give us something to watch!!

#489 leads as train 216 heads up the hill, leaving once again a quiet yard with no steam.

Not long after 216 left, #15 was fired up -- only movement was to the switch past the water tank, back to the ash pit, back to past the water tank, then to rest once again in front of the roundhouse. I assume this was just to give a bit of a warm-up, or perhaps a short check-out for plans in the future. Sounds like a pretty smooth runny loco though considering the down time.

First to arrive back in the afternoon was the engineer/fireman school train led by #484. Train turned at the wye, and came back to be shoved into the South yard.

Train 215 arrived a short time later, with #487 in the lead.

After 487 turned the train, she came to sit at the tipple - getting sand? Not sure, but then 484 came up and hooked onto 487. The tandem then headed for the shop. Interesting that 487 had her ashes cleaned out, but 484 did not.

Train 216 departs, a waver in the coach right behind the cab, but the waver in the 3rd coach is Larry Gibson. On the way to a great ride!

Train 215 arrives with Mr. Gibson once again giving us a wave at the tipple cam.

Train 216 departs, Larry Gibson down near the flammables shack for pictures. You can see today's activity here -- viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3893&p=17134#p17134

What does a photographer do after one train leaves and waiting for a Goose to leave? Well of course he just pulls up a chair and gets the best seat in the house!!

Goose #7 departed today, short VIP run up to Cumbres and back.

Goose #7 returns after VIP run.

#463 Brings in the botany train

Train 215 Arrival, 463 to ash pit. 463 will be getting a boiler wash after today, so won't be seen until mid-week.

Some yard switching after turning of 215.

A speeder was brought in to the yard today, parked in front of the caboose on the Friends work track.

Train 215 Arrival - at the end we see Larry Gibson walking with new found Friend Bob Conry

464 moved 463 out of the West side shop to the East side lead after she had a boiler wash today.

Train 216 departure.

315 and her tender were brought up separately after unloading down near the wye. Note the deer beginning about 3:12 into the video. Running beside the tender, turns toward the parking lot then last minute makes a mad dash across the track. Guess he never learned stop, look and listen!

Nobody really knew that #5 had made it, but then comes up from the wye.

Goose #5 heads out for a check run.

Train 215 arrival. Looks like some hail had built up in the gondola, reports of hail from the Goose as they went out.

Goose 5 returns from the check run.

There was also quite a bit of switching done in the South yard after 215 arrived. When I get time I'll get to that video as well (I know I said that yesterday, it will be done --- someday!

Lots more pictures from the day here as well --- viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3903
