9/20/15 Nice day and doings at depot

Unread postby Sharon Evans » Sun Sep 20, 2015 8:57 am

The day starts with all these people gathered by the depot before 216 leaves some dressed in western getup. Note that tricked out vehicle parked in one of the HC spots.

487 got the call to take today's 216 out and parlor New Mexico brought up the rear and those people gathered at the depot were not on the train.

463 is at the ash pit, probably for routine cleaning, but we will watch to see if its anything more. The 489 has moved up behind the 63 probably to get its ashes cleaned also. Nope, 489 was just moving over to the left track at the house.

489 switches tracks as 463 goes for water.

This is frustrating and fascinating at the same time. I am trying to process videos that I shot on Friday so I can get them posted to YouTube and my attention is being held by the cams.

Things are getting interesting, 463 has coupled to the freight with the stock cars. I think it is too long for 463 to get it up the hill so we continue to watch and wait. There is now a road crew on the engine and I just saw a conductor and the guy I call the "road foreman of engines" headed to the rear of the train.

Yes, Sharon, I know. My comment was about how the sun was in perfect position to view the coaling area from the tipple cam.

I'm also having trouble getting work done due to interesting things on the cams.

Moving the consist over to the main and backing to the depot to pick up people. Train has 463, 5 stock cars, tank car, rider gon and 2 cabeese. The people getting on seem to be mostly dressed in western garb complete with side arms. Also noted a lot of camera gear.

Just watched the fire patrol come back into Chama and toddled on down the main as far as the coal tipple, stop, then after a couple of minutes back it up and come down the engine house lead. Seems he didn't get the word on this special train.

Extra 463 gets out of Chama about 1235 then has to make a quick water stop before heading out of the yard. There is a drumhead on the caboose with the letter 'M' on it.

Lots of cars up at Cumbres waiting for the stock extra I would guess.

Would the cars up at Cumbres (and maybe even 463's departure with the stock cars) have anything to do with the movie that is shooting on location up at Cumbres which I believe is taking place this coming week?

I was going to answer Sharon's question saying that I thought perhaps the train had gone through to Antonito with the first delivery of some of the cars for the MOW charter -- however Ian you make a good point, if there is a movie shooting up there perhaps some cars are being used for that. Hopefully someone will have a good first hand account answer for us soon!
