Not the Friends Cam here but still gives a view of the Railroad crossing up here and parking lot by section house.
Will be able to watch the snow accumulate over the winter.

A clear night and good moon shows the features surprisingly well.

In the view to the north, you can see what looks like a section of panel track on the left. I wonder how the work on the trestle is coming along. As I understand it (and I could be wrong), that's what's holding up the move of the hospital train.

Larry, Is there a way to enlarge the camera views on the O-DOT site. I tried everything but I probably missed something?

Steve,
Here is what works for me. when on cam page, Click on pic and save it.
Then open it in pic file and it will enlarge to size I've posted here.
Not a large file to begin with so trying to enlarge them over this size isn't very good.
Hope this helps. Larry

The cam shows that it's snowing up there this morning. Wonder what this means as far as a hospital train is concerned?

Late night view: stars over Cumbres. The cam picks up a few stars tonight. With the help of friends we can see the Draco Constellation in the Center under the numbers 21 and 29 in time signature. First photo actual capture. Second is enhanced.
Bottom image sky diagram of Draco.

Thanks, yes I was very lucky both days as the camera refreshes every ten minutes or so. Perhaps next season we will be lucky and catch a few more glimpses in the high country. Can't tell yet if the other view will catch smoke at Coxo. Here is a view earlier today of snow returning. Can use some of the small pines in the foreground to watch the snow pack over the winter.

Half Moon night with clear sky reflects nicely off the snow. A little bit later a late night car headlight shines.

Now u can get an estimate of the snow pack as top of the weeds and saplings near the camera mount are about covered. The vehicle edges slowly for the downhill grade.

One of the beauties of the C&TS region is its less-"developed" nature. The January/February issue of the
Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine http://www.tpwmagazine.com/ just arrived a day or two ago. It is worth getting. The cover story is about light pollution--how hard it is to find a location to see the stars anymore. Many children in Houston or Albuquerque or Los Angeles have never seen
real stars. The International Dark-Sky Association
http://www.darksky.org, HQ'd in AZ, is trying to get people and companies and governments to use light intelligently. They are
not trying to get you to do away with your yard light, just arrange the reflector so that it does not ruin you neighbor's view or that of someone 20 miles away.
Anyway, northern New Mexico and southern Colorado have real treasures in many pristine dark-sky spots. As Larry shows, these are a precious. Thanks again, Larry!

Pretty close to full moon for this month, and it looks like daylight at Cumbres just after midnight. Obviously enhanced with the camera, and the snow, but amazingly bright there!

"It ain't over 'til it's over"... Snowing like crazy at the moment in Chama, but most of the CDOT cams are off line so I can't tell how it's piling at the pass. The moisture is welcome, and snowfalls at this time of the year melt off pretty quickly.
