Preseason Extra at the Huckleberry RR 5/25/16

Unread postby Larry Gibson » Wed May 25, 2016 7:58 pm

The regular season the the Huckleberry RR is Memorial Day through Labor Day each year. However, the RR hosts a senior day each year a few days before. Again this year K-27 Mudhen 464 was the star of the day!

Here are a few shots today of 464 backing down the main from enginhouse area and later out of the line running at speed.

BTW: The first weekend in August is Railfan Days. Shop tours, photo run-boys, model train layouts, information booths, etc make for a fun weekend. Check their web page for information later in the summer.

Really nice, Larry. That's a neat operation.

Is 464 still coal fired? Looks like an oil bunker in the tender, but can't tell for sure.

Jason it is coal fired. Larry mentioned to me that he got there too late to get any pictures of the coaling operation.

Two very short videos Larry sent me yesterday - posting here with his permission. Resolution isn't great through youtube, not sure why - I may have to convert them from .mov files, if I can make them look better I will.

Really nice, Larry! It was a very warm "Senior Power Day" at Huckleberry yesterday, and I rode the 1 p.m. trip. Loved the ride and seeing all the wildflowers along the way.

Thanks for all the comments and to Larry S for posting the videos here. We are very fortunate in these parts to have the Huck RR and Pere Marquette 1225 almost a stone's throw apart. Go out and support your local RR Museum this summer if you can!!!
