Trains update on rotary snowplow

Unread postby Paul Davenport » Sun Jul 14, 2019 7:55 am

Trains has an update (http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/20 ... nito-colo; paywall) on the planned Feb. 29-March 1 2020 rotary snowplow photo excursion. It reports that the snowplow, which was moved to Antonito in June, is in good shape mechanically (actually, it sounds like the boiler is in great shape) because it wasn't used all that much during its lifetime and because of its storage environment in a dry climate and that the major work needing to be done to rehab the snowplow involves replacing the roof, doors and windows. The Trains update also has a bit of description of the logistics of deploying the snowplow back in the day. Regarding the 2020 event, the update says the event is "sold out" and that there are hundreds on the waiting list.
While in Chama for C and D, I happened to see the windows being carefully loaded into a Friends member's personal vehicle. They were being transported so the member could use them as templates when he fabricates replacements, and the Friends carpentry shop team leader's D work-session report posted on FIDO says the doors were similarly transported.
