PLANNED MAINTENANCE - CAMERA OUTAGE

Unread postby Jason Rose » Thu Apr 23, 2015 1:03 pm

The cameras will be down intermittently May 21-22

I expect them to be down most, if not all, of the 21st. If all goes as planned, service will be fully restored on the afternoon/evening of May 22, in time for Opening Day on May 23.

Thanks Jason for the heads-up. It will be good to have freshly maintained cameras for the start of the new season. Thanks to those who are participating.

Don't forget the Rain-Ex for the lenses! If it works on your auto windshields, maybe it will work there, too!

Sure hope the cameras are up by opening day... We missed last year's opening day due to lightning strikes... Thanks for the cams as they are important to those of us unable to travel frequently. Best of luck with the update!

Thank you for doing all of the necessary cleaning and updating to the camera system.
Is it possible for some one on the ground to possibly keep us updated as to what is happening?
Thanks for all your help.

Jason and one or maybe two others are working on the camera maintenance. Since they're working short handed it'll be hard for them to do any up dates and, this is key, while the cameras are down the crews access to the internet might be limited or it might not be available at all. They are trying to have this finished by opening day and I for one would rather they keep on the job to accomplish that goal.
Today's by-word is: patience

Big progress in the past hour. Looks like Cam 1 is up... at least for now.

Stay tuned.

Sorry Rich,
My message was not intended to have the camera crew do written updates but possibly another member/s keep us updated if possible.
You are absolutely right, patience is the key.

Where did they move camera 1 to. You can see a lot more including the ash pit and 2 is up now also and its prospective seems unchanged.

Just read the post on the main forum and see that you just widened out the view.

The South camera zoom was backed out showing the ash pit - nothing else changed. The North camera is unchanged, just cleaned the lens and now has audio.

Sharon, the camera wasn't actually moved. Just adjusted for a wider angle to show more activity. The wider angle does give the appearance of having been moved back but, it really is in the same place.

Thanks for all the hard work. The cameras look good but now I have a high pitched tone on the audio that was not there before.

Someone called the Friends office on Thursday to "complain that the web cams are down" After explaining what was going on (like they couldn't read about it) they were asked if they were a member of the Friends. They said "no" and hung up, geez, so people can sure gripe if they don't get their fun with someone else is paying the bills for them. OK, rant off, have a great holiday weekend.

That's not the first time someone has done that. I wish there was a way to identify them and either turn them into members or at least embarrass them into making a donation.
Do people think that after all the efforts and money that goes into something like web cams that that owners wouldn't monitor them?
