New siding at Antonito

The update on the siding project at Antonito is that there is no update. These photos were shot Aug. 17, and it didn't appear anything has changed from earlier in the year. I suspect the railroad won't resume installation until after the season is over, to avoid disrupting service. The project is on the radar of the Friends milepost and whistle board crew because there are both a milepost and a whistle board along the affected side of that stretch of existing track, but we have no doubt the capable RR folks running this project will move the signs as needed to provide the necessary clearance. IIRC, somebody else posted previously that the siding is intended to provide additional storage space so the RR can stash and move cars more easily during the winter.

Thanks for the photos and info, Paul. I was wondering what happened with that.

Does anybody know if they have continued working this Fall on this? Any more recent pictures? Just curious.

Plus they used a smaller rail size! Makes it look neater. Something a modeler would do!

Has anybody heard what the capacity is - about how many cars it will hold?

I haven't but someone said it will hold a whole train whatever that may be.
