Discussion Pertaining to Work Session E - 2017

Tuesday 7/25/17 Emuse

Unread postby Sharon Evans » Tue Jul 25, 2017 1:20 pm

The work session today started out overcast with a high chance of rain most of the day. With this in mind, by 9:30 am the sun was shinning and it was getting warm. This lasted all morning and as we were going to lunch, the clouds started to roll back in and not long after we had begun eating the sky opened up and it was a gully washing downpour with thunder and lightening. No one was dry even under the tent covering that was over the tables in the lunch area. Work went on this morning and, once the rain stopped, this afternoon.

I spent most of the morning with the mechanical crew as they did air brake test on some of the cars in south yard. From being with them I have learned a little about air brakes and also now know the track numbering in south yard.

An air compressor is a vital piece of equipment when testing air brakes

This is a close up view of the testing rig. The green valve is the "train line", the red one "emergency application" and the yellow "normal set", it has a needle valve to restrict flow out from it.

Lunch today was the Frito pie with Frito dipping cups, chili, lettuce and cheese and you could add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, sour cream and onions

The conversion of the passenger box car back to a box car which contains benches and can be used in photo freights is coming along.

One end is done as well as the west side as it sits. The other end, seen here, is just about finished and the other side will be done either this afternoon or in the morning

Thanks Sharon for the update and information about the air brakes, very educational. Great looking lunch by the way. Keep up the great work to you and all the volunteers.
