The Friends tree and brush crew has a request to remove some of the plant growth on the surface of the trackside pond near Coxo. This is for photography purposes for a charter so the reflection of the train can be seen clearly. The water is deep enough that fishing waders would be needed or at least useful for doing that. A donation of a pair of waders in decent shape in time for use in the last week of June 2017 would be appreciated. Doug, you could stash them in a tools car -- I'd suggest the one with ladders and shovels - or just hang onto them, whatever works best for you. Thank you for your offer.

Your tarp did not survive the winter, it's in about a thousand pieces, I made you a cool workbench, a picnic table with a plywood top, and a brand new 5" bench vice that is already rusting gloriously! Dropped it by the 1515 (I made 4, total, to stave off the "Musical Picnic Tables" syndrome).

Good looking table, Doug. I bet the car crews will get good use out of it and its siblings.

Hi Doug,
Is your vice bolted down?? Just a tip but you ought to set them up so the vice jaws are clear of the table top edge, so you bolt a long object in that hangs down to the ground, do you get what I mean, I can maybe post a photo if you don't.
I had hoped to meet all you guys at a 2017 work session or two, that will have to wait till 2018 though, not enough money saved for the trip I have planned. :(

We are just coming into our winter down here, but we don't get snow, just rain and wind, my most disliked events!

I get what you mean, but, some of the tables were too damaged/rotted underneath to bolt the vices right to the edge.

These tables were to be discarded, or used for kindling, and I hijacked them. I swiped the plywood, and bought the vices from Northern.

This also represents the -sum total- of my carpentry skills. The table in the foreground doesn't have a new board underneath the plywood, I just missed with the circular saw by 1/2 inch...

I figured that when the guys show up, they could fix them, and reinforce them (I tried) however they want. They're mostly all carpenters...

Brad L. is going to help me paint them when it dries up a little.

At least they have a place to put their stuff, instead of on the ground.

Just look after them till next year so I can admire your handy work :)

Wayne, you're going to -love- it here. I would suggest you choose your project, and time of visit carefully, though. I notice, in my learning curve here, that we tend to tear down in the early part of the year, and re-assemble in the latter part, and I'm sure you're enjoy the re-assembly phase much more.

Good tip Doug, I shall bear that in mind. If my holiday plans come to fruition it will also involve a motor bike event in June up in Oregon, so it will probably be in July or there abouts. That may change.
I already love that beautiful little town Doug, visited twice but not for a work session, I have already decided that I will live my allowed 3 months there every year once those Xlotto numbers come in.

Thank you very much. The team will put the waders to good use this summer. I'll try to remember to take and post a Forum photo of the team member wearing them while clearing the pond in late June. Maybe it'll prove worthy of the Dispatch!

The tree and brush crew at the end of D work session this year (2021) went through the tool crew where much of our gear is stored and, lo and behold, we came across the waders that were discussed earlier in this thread. They were still in the box as helpfully shipped by the Friends member who donated them. Turns out that the charter train planner who requested the clearing of the plants on the pond's surface later determined that the train wouldn't go as far west as Coxo so there was no need to use the waders. But we have them if they're ever needed for that purpose or some other work. BTW, the posts by Doug Frederick on this thread about a couple of ways he helped my crew and others was a reminder of how nice of a guy he was. I miss visiting him at his desk in the wood shop in Chama.
