Car Inspector on Cumbres

What did the Car Inspector on Cumbres do? My assumption, based on his title, is that he inspected the brakes on each car for each train going over the pass, making repairs as needed to get the trains down safely.
Other questions:
-Did he have other duties? Assist the Depot Agent or Section Crew?
-Did his family live with him?
-Was there only one stationed there? Which would mean going on duty whenever a train arrived.
-Did anyone else live in the Car Inspectors House? I believe the Depot Agent lived on the 2nd floor of the Depot.
Any other insights would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know a good resource (book) with insights to what life was like in that area from 1900 to 1920? Not necessarily connected with the railroad, just life in general. I have the books by Lathrop, Speas, and Norwood and have read each several times.
