Antonito only - W O W

Unread postby Karl Strauss » Tue Jun 09, 2020 1:29 pm

I just happened to note that train service from this weekend to Mid-September is Antonito-Osier-Antonito only.
To me that's really sad. I think the climb out of Chama to Cumbres is the most exhilarating part of the trip.
Is there an issue with New Mexico permitting trains out of Chama?

I get that the bus company is hurt, but I can't help think the the whole town of Chama will be reeling. All the motels and lodges will be empty, won't they? Who is going to stay in Chama to catch a train in Antonito?

My friend, Joe Kanocz, purchased The Hotel and Shops at the conclusion of the season last year - I can't imagine how he's feeling.

Karl, I'm sure it is a state matter. New Mexico is still in lock down to the best of my knowledge. Although Rio Arriba county has been relatively lightly affected by the virus (57 cases, 1 death) Santa Fe is still being cautious.

Karl, I bet New Mexico will open by July and allow both towns to host trains again
