Post Session F - Final Section House Work

Bob Conry completed work on the Section House for the 2014 session. A membrane was installed on the west side of the foundation to permit back-filling soil in preparation for finishing the west side siding and for winter. The porch was stabilized for winter, although a portion of the porch collapsed; an exciting moment for Bob who was standing on the porch at the time. The west siding was completed up to the roof line by Ron Horejsi and Geof Gordon as time was short. The new siding and window trim were painted for winter. Fun will resume in 2015. Come and join Bob in his monumental efforts during the 2015 Work Sessions.

Great photos George, thanks for posting. I was wondering if the front porch collapsing was in part because you guys raised much of the sag in the section house? How much was it raised, and how much more lifting is needed? Thankfully the sagging problem was arrested before major structural damage was inflicted. :smiley24:

Thank you for your efforts to save/repair the Section House. It's truly appreciated.

George, it was mentioned in an earlier post that a french drainage system would help with future foundation/sag problems. Are there any further developments following that line of thought?

The RR still plans on a trench, but I do not have any details at the moment.

Thank you George it's good to know they at least have it in the planning stage.

I was told by a person with first hand knowledge that the C&TS will commence work soon, with the intention of completing before the snow season. At the minimum, a french drain system will be installed, between the section house and track, parallel to the track. Also, effort will be made to address the leaks, etc, plaguing the Cumbres cistern.

Short answer is a buried pipe that has holes - very useful for draining wet and marshy areas.

I hope this helps,

Sort of like a leach field in reverse.
